Magna Entertainment Corp.'s straw-processing plant in North Carolina, which will produce bedding for Magna's stable of racetracks, is expected to begin production late next week.
STREUfex Manufacturing Facility, a subsidiary of MEC, sits on 80 acres in Lumberton, N.C. MEC plans to buy locally grown wheat straw and convert it to bedding at the plant.
"We were assembling the machines this week and hope to have the first production line operating by the latter part of next week," said Ricky Oxendine, production manager of STREUfex.
Magna plans for the facility in the next four years to have 30 employees, the Lumberton
