(from Santa Anita notes)
Trainer Richard Mandella says Action This Day is progressing nicely toward the juvenile champion's 2004 debut in the $75,000 Sham Stakes Feb. 8 at Santa Anita.

Action This Day worked seven furlongs on Santa Anita's fast main track Saturday in 1:25 2/5.

According to Santa Anita clockers, Action This Day went the first half in :50 2/5 and six furlongs to the wire in 1:13 2/5, covering the last three-eighths in a sprightly :35 flat. He worked with two other horses that finished behind him.

"He worked very nice," Mandella said. "He's ready to go."

Probable for the Sham at 1 1/8 miles for 3-year-olds: Action This Day, David Flores; Borrego, Tyler Baze; Preachinatthebar, Gary Stevens; Totally Platinum, no rider; True Contender, no rider; and Winner From Mars, Kent Desormeaux.
