Wishful Splendor drew even with favored May Gator at the sixteenth pole and won going away by 1 1/4 lengths in Saturday's $100,000 Suwannee River Handicap, which was switched from the turf to the Gulfstream Park main track due to heavy showers.
Mymich finished third in a field of five, 2 3/4 lengths behind May Gator.
Wishful Splendor, with Jose Santos aboard for trainer Sal Russo, ran the 1 1/8-mile distance in 1:54 4/5 on sloppy going and paid $17.20, $5.20 and $2.80. May Gator paid $3.20 and $2.60. Mymich was $3 to show.
Her first stakes victory was worth $60,000 to owner John H. Manganaro Jr. Wishful Splendor, a 5-year-old mare by Smart Strike , improved to 5-7-3 in 22 lifetime starts with earnings of $271,125. JMJ Stables Corp. bred the chestnut in Kentucky.
Seven horses – New Economy, Approach, Changing World, Mystery Itself, Madeira Mist, Sixty Seconds and Something Ventured – were scratched.
