She's Zealous and jockey Mike Luzzi sprint to victory in the $75,000 Added Correction Handicap, Saturday afternoon at Aqueduct.
Jay Em Ess Stable's She's Zealous carried jockey Mike Luzzi to his fourth win of the day, a front-running, hard-fought one-length victory over Fit Performer Saturday in the $82,875 Correction Handicap for fillies and mares on Aqueduct's fast inner dirt track.
A 4-year-old daughter of Cozzene
, She's Zealous emerged from an early scramble to take the lead and set a pace of :22 3/5; :45 4/5 and :57 3/5, while being pressured by uncoupled stablemate Fit Performer, the Interborough Handicap winner, who went off as the 2-1 favorite.
She's Zealous, who was beaten a neck in her previous start on Jan. 14, won the six-furlong Correction Handicap in 1:10 for trainer Richard Dutrow. She carried 113 pounds in the Correction, 10 less than in her previous start, which was against allowance foes.
"You have to ask her to get there, and we had plans to do that today," said Luzzi. "We took no prisoners and went to the lead. Last time, we experimented a little bit to see if she would come from off the pace. I think Mr. Dutrow thought her best game was on the lead, and he was right. That's why he's 40 percent (win percentage). She was very game, everything went as planned."
The winner improved her career bankroll to $157,765 with her fourth win in nine lifetime starts.
Balmy headed Chirmoya, who had a troubled trip, for the show.
She's Zealous paid $9, $4 and $3 while earning $49,725 for her owners. Fit Performer returned $3.40 and $2.80, and Balmy paid $4.80.
