New Zealand Select Sale on Upswing After Two Days

The results from the first two days of the select portion of the national yearling sales in New Zealand showed increases in average price, median price, and clearance rate compared with the combined results of the select colts and select fillies Sessions last year. New Zealand Bloodstock is conducting the auction, which ends Friday.

After selling on Wednesday and Thursday, the average stood at NZ$31,330 (approximately $21,226 in U.S. funds), a 12% increase on last year's end of sale average. The clearance rate was 77%, up from 69% in 2003. The median rose to NZ$26,000 ($17,615), a 15% increase from the end of the 2003 select sessions. The gross was NZ$7.3 million ($4,945,750).

The top price was $150,000 ($101,625), which was achieved by two of the progeny of Stravinsky. Trainer Paul Perry purchased the colt out of Rare Bits from Belvedere Farm. Paul Moroney Bloodstock bought the colt out of Shariat from Rich Hill Stud.
