Grade I winner Dessert, a half-sister to Eclipse Award finalist Johar, has been retired from racing. The 4-year-old daughter of Storm Cat out of Canadian champion Windsharp (by Lear Fan) scored her big win in the Del Mar Oaks (gr. IT) in August. She was pre-entered for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (gr. IT) in October, but was withdrawn from consideration because of a minor injury. She raced one more time after that and finished unplaced.
Dessert retired with three wins from eight starts and earnings of $259,560 racing in the U.S. and England as a homebred for The Thoroughbred Corp. She is the second foal from Windsharp. Johar, the mare's first offspring, deadheated for first in the 2003 John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT) with High Chaparral.
Plans call for Dessert to be bred to Kingmambo.
