Jon White, host of daily live Thoroughbred racing coverage for HorseRacing TV, will receive the Mark Kaufman Media Award at the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders' Association awards banquet Feb. 15 "for his excellence in promoting the Washington Thoroughbred industry and Emerald Downs for 2003."
A native of Washington, White's achievements include coverage of the 2003 Longacres Mile for HRTV and Fox Sports Net, and regular guest appearance on The Win Place Show radio program, hosted by Joe Withee, which airs throughout the year from Emerald Downs. In addition to his position with HRTV, White is a simulcast television commentator for Santa Anita and Oak Tree.
White began a 23-year association with Daily Racing
Form in 1974 at Playfair. This past December, he won a Santa Anita Pick Six that paid $45,981.20 with a ticket that was displayed repeatedly earlier in the day on HRTV. Charlie Sigrast, an HRTV viewer in Chicago, also won $45,981.20 because he saw the ticket on HRTV and decided to bet it.
The Mark Kaufman Media Award is named in honor of the late longtime publicity director at Longacres. Kaufman became a nationally respected publicist due in large measure to his excellent work for many years at the Kentucky Derby and Breeders' Cup.
