Taste of Paradise, sold for a Barretts January record price.
Barretts' January mixed sale ended its two-day run Tuesday with moderate declines in gross revenue, average price, and median price. The 517 horses sold in Southern California grossed $4,057,300, down 8.4% from a year ago. The average price of $7,848 represented a 7.2% setback. The median slipped 12.5% to $3,500. The buy-back rate rose from 12.1% last year to 17.8% this year.
Miss Grimsby, a Saint Ballado mare in foal to Tribal Rule, and a Bartok yearling filly shared top-priced honors on the auction's closing day, bringing $45,000 apiece. Rancho San Miguel purchased Miss Grimsby from Special T Thoroughbreds, agent. Eric Kruljac, agent for Mitchell Ranch, bought the Bartok filly from Sue Hubbard and Associates, agent for the complete dispersal of Lakeview Thoroughbred Farm.
An 8-year-old, Miss Grimsby won three races and finished second in two stakes. Her dam, Dover Court, is an unraced daughter of Gold Alert. Dover Court's family has produced several stakes winners, including Jasper Park and Rose and Betty.
The Bartok filly was produced from the 13-year-old stakes-winning mare Noruega (by Dance in Time). They are from the family of graded winners Artichoke and Amber Ever.
On Monday, graded winner Taste of Paradise set a Barretts January sale record when he brought $425,000.Results from Barretts
