Taste of Paradise Sets Barretts Winter Sale Record

Taste of Paradise sold for a Barretts winter sale record price.
Taste of Paradise, winner of the 2003 San Diego Handicap (gr. II), brought a Barretts Equine Ltd. January sale record price of $425,000 when purchased by David Bloom Monday during the first of two sessions at the sales company's Hinds Pavilion in Pomona, California.
The 4-year-old son of Conquistador Cielo -- Tastetheteardrops (by What Luck) was consigned as a racing or stallion prospect by Berkey Bloodstock Services, as agent for a partnership dissolvement. Trained by John W. Sadler, Taste of Paradise has won three of 12 starts and earned $280,360 while racing for Keith Abrahams and Paul Bloom.
Overall, 277 horses were sold for $2,473,800 averaging $8,931. At the same session one year ago, 269 horses grossed $2,122,800 for an average price of $7,891.
The sale concludes Tuesday.
