Equine Sales Company announced its 2-year-olds in training sale will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2016, in Opelousas, La., with the breeze show set for Sunday, May 8. This will mark the third juvenile auction for Equine Sales Company.
The company also announced that the inaugural runnings of the Sales Stakes races for 3-year-olds will be held May 6-7, 2016, at Evangeline Downs.
"We pushed the date of the sale back a little bit in 2016 to allow more time for buyers and consignors who might also be participating in earlier sales," said Foster Bridewell, sales director for Equine Sales Company, in a release. "We had a lot of interest in this auction last year with the addition of the Sales Stakes, and we expect that interest to continue to grow this year."
The Sales Stakes are restricted to graduates of any of the three annual Equine Sales Company auctions, starting with the auctions held in 2015, and will offer two divisions at $75,000 each going a route of ground.
The fillies division has been set for May 6, with colts and geldings running May 7 (the same dates as the Longines Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands, both grade I, at Churchill Downs). Graduates of the 2015 Stars of Tomorrow 2-year-old sale at Evangeline will also be eligible for the 2016 races; however, the sales company announced, that auction will not be conducted in the future.
Graduates of the 2016 Equine Sales Company 2-year-old sale will be eligible for the 2017 races as 3-year-olds. Those races will be named in the near future, Equine Sales Company said.
