The gross revenue and average price were up Wednesday during the first open session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's winter mixed sale in Florida. However, the median suffered a significant decline when compared to a year ago.

OBS reported that the 187 horses sold grossed $870,700, an increase of 8.1% from 2002's first open session. The average of $4,656 represented an advance of 11.5%. The median fell 22.2% to $2,100. The buy-back rate rose slightly, from 21.9% to 22.4%.

Honorably, a winning Star de Naskra mare in foal to Aptitude, was the most expensive horse sold Wednesday, attracting a $55,000 bid from Harvey Peltier III. An 11-year-old, Honorably was produced from the grade III winner Grateful Friend (by Teddy's Courage). Honorably is a half-sister to Friendlier (by Naskra), the dam of Brazilian group III winner Faro Alto (by Choctaw Ridge). Lambholm South consigned Honorably as agent.

Two consignor-preferred sessions preceded Wednesday's open session. Through the first three of the auction's four sessions, 509 horses were sold for a gross of $6,965,400 and an average of $13,684. The sale's final session, an open affair, is Thursday, beginning at 11 a.m. (EST).
