Hallowed Dreams' First Foal By Tirade

Hallowed Dreams, who equaled a modern day record by winning her first 16 races, produced her first foal, a Tirade colt, Jan. 13 for Johnny Gaspard and Lloyd J. Romero at the latter's farm near Erath, La.

Tirade, a winning son of Forty Niner and a full brother to a graded stakes winner, seemed a puzzling choice to breed to such a dazzling mare as Hallowed Dreams. But Romero, who trained Hallowed Dreams, had a good reason to pick him.

Hallowed Dreams was retired because of an ankle problem in the summer of 2002 and has been plagued by it ever since. Instead of sending her to Kentucky to be bred to a high profile stallion in 2003, Romero kept her home and bred her to farm stallion Tirade.

"She couldn't make the trip to Kentucky because of that sore ankle," Romero said. "She's still limping."

Bred in Louisiana by Mike Kennington, 7-year-old Hallowed Dreams (Malagra--Pacific's Dream, by Brother Machree) won 25 of 30 starts and earned $740,144. Romero, who said he is undecided as to a mate for Hallowed Dreams this year, plans to keep the colt and race him.

Unfortunately for Romero, Tirade died last summer at age 10.
