Jockey Eddie Martin Jr. tied a Fair Grounds record Sunday when he became the seventh jockey in the history of the storied New Orleans track to ride six winners in a day.
Martin, 40, became the first at Fair Grounds since Shane Romero in February 1991 to accomplish the feat.
Martin won the first four races on the card, in order, with Forever Diligent ($7), Viagra River ($9.20), Lovely Bonita ($7.20) and Money Trust ($4.80).
Martin's next win came in ninth race, the featured $60,000 Dr. A. B. Leggio Memorial Handicap, when he scored with 22-1 shot Put Me In, owned by the estate of Mary Lou Heleringer, by 4½ lengths in an 11-horse field.
His sixth and final win was aboard maiden Every Advantage ($4.40) in the 10th race.
The superb day moved Martin into a tie for second in the jockey standings with 31 wins.
