(from Santa Anita notes)Trainer Bobby Frankel, who was considering the Sunshine Million Classic instead of the $300,000 Padua Stables Sprint at Gulfstream Park for Midas Eyes, called another audible Sunday morning.
He said the 4-year-old son of Touch Gold would be pointed to the $300,000 Strub Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita on Feb. 7.
"Even though he likes that track (Midas Eyes won the Swale Stakes at Gulfstream last March 3 by 9 ΒΌ lengths) I didn't want to ship him and wasn't crazy about facing Shake You Down," Frankel said.
Midas Eyes worked six furlongs at Hollywood Park Sunday in 1:13 2/5, while Peace Rules, one of the Classic favorites, went the same distance in l:12 3/5.
Madame Pietra, who will defend her Sprint title under Frankel's supervision, worked five furlongs at Hollywood in 1:00.60.
