Arcus Surprises in Crescnt City Derby

Arcus, ridden Shane Laviolette, surprised favored Walk This Way with a gate-to-wire victory in Saturday's $75,000 Crescent City Derby for 3-year-old Lousiana breds at Fair Grounds.
A bay gelding by Dayjur trained by Alvin Sider for owners/breeders Glenn Jones and Missy Rutherford, Arcus went 1 1/16 mile on a sloppy track in 1:48 4/5 to record a 1 1/2-length victory over Walk This Way. The 8-5 favorite was a head in front of Old Lee in the field of 11 sophomores.
Arcus cruised to the early lead, responded when challenged by Classic Hour approaching the stretch and pulled away again to finish clear while under a drive.
He notched his second win from five starts and earned $45,000 for the effort.
The winner paid $28.80, $11.80 and $9. Walk This Way returned $3.40 and $3. Old Lee's show was $4.60. The $2 exacta was worth $110.40.
