The Ocala Breeders' Sales Company has catalogued 204 horses for its select sale of 2-year-olds in training at Calder Race Course on Feb. 3. The number is up slightly from last year's total for the South Florida sale of 201.
Under tack shows will be held Jan. 26 and Feb. 1, beginning at 10:30 a.m. (EST) each day.
During last year's auction, 117 horses were sold for a gross of $12,733,000, an average price of $108,829, and a median price of $75,000. Compared to 2002, rhe gross fell 2.4% while the average and median were down 4.9% and 16.7%, respectively. Chapel Royal, a son of Montbrook, set an OBS record for a 2-year-old in training when he brought a $1.2-million bid from Demi O'Byrne. The colt later became a multiple graded winner.
