In an effort to better accommodate the training schedules of California horsemen, Barretts has added a sale of 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age to its schedule in 2004. The auction is scheduled for June 29 at Fairplex Park in Southern California.
"A lot of people in California get 2-year-olds ready (to run) later than is workable for our March and May sales," said Jerry McMahon, the president and general manager of Barretts. "In addition, a lot of horses get sick or have problems and are scratched, especially from our May sale. (For those reasons) we thought there would be room on our calendar for a small sale of 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age."
Barretts hopes to attract "100 or so" 2-year-olds and "40 to 50 racehorses" for the new auction, according to McMahon.
