Baldomera came from off the pace to catch High Peaks in deep stretch and win the $78,375 Ruthless Stakes on a rainy Sunday at Aqueduct by 1 3/4 lengths.
Baldomera, ridden by Anthony Black and carrying 118 pounds, won for the third time in nine lifetime starts.
High Peaks, who led deep into the stretch, was second in the field of five 3-year-old fillies. Prudencia was another half-length back in third.
Baldomera, a 3-year-old Kentucky-bred filly by Doneraile Court, earned $47,925 for breeder-owner Hidden Lane Farm. She is now 3-3-2 from nine starts with earnings of $110,455. She previously finished second in the Valley Stream (gr. III) on Nov. 23 at Aqueduct.
"She doesn't like to be up near the pace," said winning trainer Guadalupe Preciado. "She can get intimidated when she gets dirt in her face, so Tony (Black) did a nice job keeping her outside early."
The winner returned $5.90, $3.80 and $3.80. High Peaks paid $5.80 and $4.40 and Prudencia showed at $7.50.
