Sent off at nearly 12-1, I'm Brassy led at every pole in Monday's $150,000 Prioress Stakes (gr. II), winning by a neck over Dat You Miz Blue in the six-furlong test for 3-year-old fillies. Lucky Livi finished 2 1/2 lengths farther back in third, followed by Dream Supreme, Miss Inquisitive, Sahara Gold, Katz Me If You Can, Wedding Weekend, and the favored Cover Gal.
"We didn't mind having the one-hole because she's so fast," said winning jockey Mike Luzzi. "Even though her fractions were fast (:22.04 and :45.18), she relaxed perfectly and was waiting on horses. She just wouldn't let that other horse (Dat You Miz Blue) get by her."
I'm Brassy (Dixie Brass--Mrs. O'Reilly, by What Luck) is trained by Kristina Dupps for owners Iron Lance Stables, Sebastian Parisi, and Nancy Marotta. The lightly raced filly advanced through her preliminary allowance condition in her previous race after winning for the first time in May. She earned $90,000 for the win, her third from four starts. She was bred in Kentucky by Margaret Picarello.
I'm Brassy paid $25.40, $12.80, and $9.20 across the board. Dat You Miz Blue returned $7.60 and $5.10, and Lucky Livi paid $6.50 to show. The exacta returned $134.
