Dogwood Stable's Impeachment galloped 11 furlongs Tuesday in preparation for Saturday's $1-million Travers Stakes at Saratoga Racecourse. "As for Impeachment in the Travers, the way we look at it, he was third in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I), behind Fusaichi Pegasus and Aptitude, and third in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I), behind Red Bullet and Fusaichi Pegasus. Those horses aren't here. Impeachment has competed in all three Triple Crown races, plus the Haskell. He's been nibbling about these races, and we're hoping that one of these days, he'll polish one off," said trainer Todd Pletcher.
Hall of Fame trainer Flint "Scotty" Schulhofer watched Jeanne Vance's Postponed gallop two miles Tuesday morning. Schulhofer plans to give him a blow out on the main track Wednesday morning, right after the break. "He's doing well up here," Schulhofer said.
Haskell Invitational Handicap winner Dixie Union zipped five furlongs in 1:01.26 on the main track Monday morning. With exercise rider Steve Willard aboard, Dixie Union breezed in a time that was third fastest of the day among 26 horses working the distance, the fastest of which was recorded in 1:01 flat. Dixie Union spent Tuesday walking the shedrow. "He'll just gallop into the race now," trainer Richard Mandella said.
Tracy Farmer's Albert the Great galloped a mile and a half over Saratoga's training track Tuesday morning. "He'll stay on the training track all this week," trainer Nick Zito said. "He's doing fine, knock on wood."
Unshaded galloped a mile over the main track on Tuesday. The son of 1990 Kentucky Derby winner Unbridled was supposed to jog, but according to assistant trainer Bob Lewis, "was feeling too good" to just jog. "That (to jog) was the plan, but Unshaded was just too hyper," Lewis said. 'We had to let him gallop. He'll just work tomorrow (Wednesday)."
Also expected to run in the Travers are Unshaded, Milwaukee Brew, Curule, and Country Coast.
