Almutawakel, winning the 1999 Dubai World Cup, will stand at stud in Ireland.
Godolphin Racing's Almutawakel, winner of the 1999 Dubai World Cup (UAE-I), has been retired to enter stud next year at Sheikh Hamdan al Maktoum's Derrinstown Stud in County Kildare, Ireland. The 5-year-old son of Machiavellian will stand for 6,000 Irish guineas.

In addition to his World Cup victory over Daylami and Silver, Almutawakel also won the 1998 Prix Jean Prat (Fr-I) and finished second in the Grand Prix de Paris (Fr-I) while being trained by Saeed bin Suroor. Sent to trainer Mark Hennig in the U.S., the horse placed in the Oaklawn handicap (gr. I) and Woodward Stakes (gr. I) and finished third in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I). From 19 starts, Almutawakel had four victories and converted earnings of $3,643,021.

"He was an excellent racehorse, winning two group Ones and being placed in a further four," said Derrinstown general manager Hubie de Burgh. "He is a very good-looking horse and a great opportunity for breeders to get into a well-bred horse..." Charm
