Claiborne Farm and Adele Dilschneider's Louisiana Derby (gr. II) winner Mighty has been retired from racing and will stand the 2001 breeding season at Walmac Farm, according to trainer Frank Brothers.Mighty was sidelined after finishing seventh in the Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I), forcing him to miss the spring classics. In two races back this fall, Mighty finished fifth of seven in a Belmont Park allowance race and fourth in the Seattle Slew Stakes at Keeneland."We hoped that with some time off Mighty would make a complete recovery," said Brothers. "However, it appears that he will not be able to compete at the top level, so we made the decision to retire him."Mighty (Lord At War -- Madame Gold, by Mr. Prospector) won three of 13 career races and earned $705,432. Besides the Louisiana Derby win, Mighty also won the Iroquois Stakes (gr. III) at Churchill Downs.A stud fee for Mighty was not announced.
