Brutally Frank returned from a three-month layoff and beat favored Lumberman by three-quarters of a length Thursday in the $61,000 Royal Haven Handicap at Aqueduct. The victory improved the 6-year-old gelding's record at the track to six wins from 10 career starts.
Brutally Frank, ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan, went six furlongs in 1:09.30 on the fast track to earn $36,600 for Sunny Meadow Farm with his fifth win in 10 starts this year and his 12th in 57 career races. Trained by Mitchell Friedman, Brutally Frank was bred in Kentucky by Marian B. Davis.
The winner returned $7.30, $3 and $2.10. Lumberman paid $2.50 and $2.10, and Double Screen was worth $2.10 to show. The winning exacta combination paid $18.80.
