After losing all or part of seven race cards since Dec. 13, Turfway Park will switch to afternoon racing for the holiday week. Beginning Wednesday and running through Jan. 1, first post at the Florence, Ky. oval will be at 1:10 p.m. (EST).
In an effort to offset races lost due to weather this month, Turfway will offer 12-race cards for these afternoons.
"The afternoon racing during the holiday week between Christmas and New Year's is always very popular," said Robert N. Elliston, the track's president, in a written statement. "We're adding the additional races each day to make up for some of the races we lost thus far due to the inclement weather conditions. This allows us the opportunity to give horseman a chance to run their horses and for out patrons to enjoy some extra live racing after all of the foul weather we've had of late."
The forecast for Wednesday in Florence calls for snow showers and a high temperature of 32 degrees.
