A settlement in the dispute regarding underpayment of purses between Hialeah Park and the Florida Horsemen Benevolent and Protective Association is near completion, according to FHBPA President Linda Mills.
"We have worked out all of the details and are just awaiting the final paperwork to be drafted by the lawyers," Mills said.
The FHBPA had filed suit against Hialeah, claiming that the track shortchanged horsemen by $500,000 in 2000 purses. Hialeah's position was that purses were overpaid by approximately the same amount from the agreement reached in March 2000 with the horsemen.
No details of the settlement were released, except that Hialeah has agreed to increase the average daily overnight purses by $3,000 for the upcoming 2001 meet, to be run March 17 through May 22.
(It was incorrectly reported on bloodhorse.com Friday that the settlement was concluded.)
