Quartet Works for Hollywood Derby

Fortune Writers, who arrived Monday from New York for the $600,000 Hollywood Derby (gr. IT) Sunday, worked four furlongs on the turf course Wednesday in :49 2/5 under Craig Marshall, assistant to trainer Jim Toner.

Fortune Writers, third-place finisher in the Lawrence Realization Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Belmont in his last start Oct. 11, is stabled with Marshall and groom Sarafin Romero.

Three other Hollywood Derby aspirants also worked Wednesday. Alberto Giacometti, a French import making his United States debut for the Laura de Seroux stable, worked five furlongs on turf in a bullet 1:00 3/5. Sweet Return, runner-up in the Oak Tree Derby (gr. IIT), drilled the same distance in 1:02 under exercise rider Paddy Dalton for trainer Ron McAnally. Californian, conditioned by 21-year-old Kristin Mulhall, worked five furlongs on the main track in 1:02.
