Agnes Digital, a Kentucky-bred son of Crafty Prospector, set a new Kyoto Racecourse (Japan) record of 1:32.6 for 1 mile on turf when the 3-year-old colt won Sunday's Mile Championship (Jpn-I). The victory, by a half-length over Daltaku Riva, was the sixth in 15 starts for Agnes Digital, who has converted earnings of $2,444,832.
Trained by Toshiaki Shirai for owner Takao Watanabe, Agnes Digital was bred in Kentucky by Catesby W. Clay and Peter J. Callahan. The colt was produced from the Chief's Crown mare Chancey Squaw. Clay's Runnymede Farm purchased Chanecy Squaw for $145,000 from the Nursery Place consignment to the 1996 Keeneland November mixed sale. The mare was in foal to Crafty Prospector and carrying Agnes Digital at the time of the purchase. Agnes Digital was purchased privately as a weanling on behalf of Watanabe.
In addition to the Mile Championship, Agnes Digital was also victorious in the 1999 Zen-Nihon Sansai Yushun (Jpn-II) and this year previously won the Nagoya Yushun and Unicorn Stakes, both Jpn-III.
