Frontrunner Smokey Glacken won the the $112,200 Valley Stream Stakes (gr. III) for 2-year-old fillies under Jose Santos by 3 3/4 lengths at Aqueduct on Sunday.

"The rail looked okay today so I told Jose to break and ask her a little," said winning trainer Jimmy Jerkens. "If someone wanted the lead and wanted to cross over, we were going to make them run hard to do it."

Smokey Glacken broke from the rail and set fractions of :21 3/5, :45 and :57 2/5 en route to completing the 6-furlong race in 1:11. The 5-2 second choice in the field of nine paid $7, $4.50 and $3.40 to win. She pulled away to lead by 5 1/2 lengths in the stretch and won driving.

"Jimmy and I talked and decided to let her run from the gate," Santos said. "We wanted to make Forest Music work for the lead. I looked over and was surprised she wasn't up there. She was much the best. She ran beautiful."

Smokey Glacken – a Kentucky-bred bay juvenile filly by Forestry, out of Majesty's Crown (Magesterial) – earned $67,320 for Susan and John Moore. She is now 3-0-1 from four starts with earnings of $140,820. She broke her maiden at Saratoga on Aug. 25 and won the Forward Gal Stakes at Monmouth on Sept. 21. In her last start, she was third in the Astarita (gr. II) at Belmont Park on Oct. 12.
