Pebo's Guy, an 11-1 shot, won the $86,625 Kingston Handicap at Belmont for the second time in three years Sunday, scoring by 1 1/2 lengths over John Paul Too. Galactic finished third, another neck back, in the race for horses 3 and older that drew a field of 12.
Pebo's Guy carried 119 pounds with Joe Bravo over 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.22 over the turf course and earned $51,975 for Peter DeStefano.
"He was fresh coming off the long layoff and he's been training great," said winning trainer Gary Sciacca. "He loves this course. He was a little wide, but Joe Bravo knows this horse well. We planned to be right off the lead and they went ding-donging up front. He's a big sound horse and he loved the time off."
The win was the first in 13 starts for Pebo's Guy, who returned $24.80, $10 and $7.10. John Paul Too paid $4.60 and $4 and Galactic showed at $13.40.
The track's Pick Four wager -- the winners of the sixth through ninth races -- returned $253,234. There was one winner and the wager was placed at the track.
Pulled Out ($91.50) won the sixth, followed by Doc's Destiny ($22.80), Pebo's Guy ($24.80) and Visit the Circle ($11.40).
The Pick Four was instituted at the start of this meeting.
