Petrushka and Mutafaweq, each a three-time group I winner, will face seven other horses in Friday's Vodafone Coronation Cup (Eng-I) at Epsom Downs.
Highclere Thoroughbred Racing's Petrushka will make her 4-year-old debut in the 1 1/2-mile Coronation Cup. In her last race as a sophomore, the Irish-bred finished fifth in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (gr. IT). Prior to that, she won the Prix de l'Opera (Fr-I), the Yorkshire Oaks (Eng-I), and the Irish Oaks (Ire-I) in succession. In her lone start over the Epsom course, she finished fourth in the Epsom Oaks (Eng-I). The Sir Michael Stoute-trained daughter of Unfuwain -- Ballet Shoes, by Ela-Mana-Mou, was the highweighted 3-year-old filly on the English Free Handicap at both 9 1/2-11 furlongs and 11-14 furlongs.
Godolphin Racing's Mutafaweq made his seasonal debut in the Dubai Sheema Classic (UAE-II), in which he finished eighth. The 5-year-old son of Silver Hawk has three group I successes to his credit, including a nose-length victory over Williams News in the Canadian International Stakes (Can-I) at Woodbine last October. Stablemate Ekraar is also entered in the Coronation Cup.
The other six horses to pass the confirmation stage are Border Arrow, Chimes at Midnight, Golden Snake, Little Rock, Millenary, and Wellbeing.
