(from Hollywood Park notes)Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) winner Adoration worked six furlongs on the Hollywood Park turf course in 1:18 1/5 Thursday under regular rider Patrick Valenzuela after being supplemented to the $500,000 Matriarch (gr. IT) Nov. 30 for $15,000.
"I didn't like her work," said trainer David Hofmans after the drill. "It looked like she was jumping up and down. She will probably work on the turf here again next Wednesday before we make a decision.
"We thought about the Matriarch for her next race because it is at a mile, a good distance for her," said Hofmans. "She is also a graded stakes winner on the turf here and for a grade I, this race is coming up a bit soft.
"If we don't run on the grass, Adoration will probably make her next start in the Bayakoa Handicap (gr. II) here," said Hofmans of the $150,000 test for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles on the main track Dec. 7.
Owner John Amerman watched the 4-year-old filly drill.
Magic Mission, one of three Neil Drysdale fillies nominated to the Matriarch, worked on the turf, breezing seven furlongs in 1:30 1/5. Drysdale also nominated Australian import Bollinger and Musical Chimes.
More than the maximum number of 14 starters are considering the Matriarch. In addition to Adoration and the Drysdale trio, they include defending champion Dress To Thrill, Acago, Belleski, Chopinina, Dancal, Dedication, Etoile Montante, Garden In The Rain, Intercontinental, Island Fashion, Maiden Tower, Mer De Corail and Betty's Wish.
