Live racing dates for the remainder of the 2001 Thoroughbred racing season in Maryland were approved this afternoon at the monthly Maryland Racing Commission meeting in Timonium.
A 13-day summer meeting will be held at Pimlico Race Course beginning Aug. 8, picking up after the five-week Colonial Downs stand in central Virginia. The Pimlico meeting concludes Aug. 24.
Action then switches to Timonium for the 10-day Maryland State Fair (Aug. 25-Sept. 3). Horseracing returns to the major tracks for the remainder of the year on Sept. 6 for the fall meeting.
In September and October, live racing will be conducted four days a week, Wednesday through Saturday. Sunday racing will be added to the weekly lineup in November and December.
The current Pimlico spring meeting concludes July 7. The winter meeting was conducted at Laurel Park from Jan. 1 to March 25.
There will be 221 live racing days at Pimlico and Laurel Park in 2001.
