The HorsePlayer Magazine announced Tuesday the hiring of Jeremy Plonk as the publication's editor. Plonk is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma's H.H. Herbert School of Journalism, as well as Churchill Downs' inaugural 1994 Collegiate Sports Journalism Seminar. His multimedia career has included covering such events as the Kentucky Derby, Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, major league baseball, the National Basketball Association, the College World Series and Division I collegiate football and basketball. Since 2000, Plonk has served as lead researcher and statistician for national network horse racing telecasts on NBC Sports, the ESPN family of networks, CNBC and Fox Sports Net. Plonk currently is a regular contributing columnist for ESPN.com and NTRA.com, and has written extensively for past issues of The HorsePlayer Magazine. He resides in Hazleton, Pa., with his wife of three years, Andrea. "I'm picking up a live mount," Plonk said. "The HorsePlayer Magazine already has established itself as the leading periodical for racing's best handicapping insights. We'll just add a slightly different edge by blending the magazine's outstanding staff with a few new twists. When someone asks you to combine your two career passions, journalism and the horse racing industry, that's about as good as it gets for me." Launched in 1994, The HorsePlayer Magazine is an independently owned and operated publication focused on the technologies, people, trends and skills of handicapping horse races. Published six times annually, The HorsePlayer Magazine boasts a subscriber base of 23,000 readers nationwide. "We're delighted to be able to add a person with Jeremy's talents to our stable," publisher Tom Quigley commented. "All of us are passionate about our industry and the magazine we produce and look forward to the contributions that Jeremy will make to insure we service our readers and clients to a level that surpasses their expectations."
