British-bred Caitano has been added to the list of European campaigners likely to invade the Midwest for the 19th running of the Arlington Million (gr. IT) Aug. 18.
Trained by Andreas Schulz, Caitano traveled to Istanbul to win Turkey's Group II Bosphoros Cup as one of his career-highlights, and is a veteran of a pair of Group I Japan Cups, combined with stops at Hong Kong and Dubai. Caitano has also raced in Canada.
Erik Penser's Compton Bolter, who finished fifth in the Secretariat (gr. IT) last year, runs Friday at Goodwood as the highweight in a listed stakes race over 12 furlongs, but remains likely for the Arlington Million barring a sub-par performance in that outing.
Joining Caitano and Compton Bolter on the list of European campaigners now considered likely for the Million are Silvano and Muakaad.
Another European-based runner considering the Million is Padua Stables' Bach, despite a seventh-place finish in the group I Champagne Lanson Sussex at Goodwood Wednesday.
With the defection of King Cugat to the Sword Dancer Invitational Handicap (gr. IT) at Saratoga Aug. 11, Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott will saddle Hap, winner of the Bernard Baruch (gr. IIT) July 27.
Joining Hap on the list of North American-based campaigners likely for the Arlington Million at this time are Bienamado; Quiet Resolve; Redattore; and Takarian.
Remaining as possible starters for the Million among North American runners are: Make No Mistake; Fusaichi Zenon; Hesiode; National Anthem; and Senure.
