Hall of Fame jockey Jerry Bailey can set a new North American single season record for stakes wins by a jockey this weekend when he ventures to Calder Race Course in Miami for five stakes mounts on Saturday's big Florida Million card. With 66 stakes wins to his credit thus far in 2003, Bailey is two victories behind Mike Smith, who rode the winners of 68 stakes races in North America in 1994. Bailey can also break his own single-season record for North American purse earnings, a mark he established last year, should his mounts earn $258,000 or more. Last year, Bailey-ridden horses earned $22,871,814. So far this year, his charges have accumulated just over $22.6 million in purse earnings. The Florida Million series features six stakes races for Florida breds and has attracted strong fields to compete for $1 million in total purses. Topping the day's contests is the $200,000 Carl G. Rose Classic, led by veteran handicap star Best of the Rest who will take on four others including the Bailey-piloted The Judge Sez Who. Another of the day's highlights promised to be the $150,000 Jack Price Juvenile, which will showcase the first meeting of the undefeated 2-year-olds Sir Oscar and Wynn Dot Comma. Bailey will have the riding assignment on Wynn Dot Comma.
