Hall of Fame member Paseana, who has experienced problems conceiving, will be returned to her native Argentina in an attempt to get her in foal. Owned by Sidney and Jenny Craig, Paseana will be headed to Dr. Ignacio Pavlovsky's farm near Buenos Aires and will be mated to either Southern Halo or Lode. Her sole offspring, a filly foaled in 2000, is by Lode.
Fourteen-year-old Paseana (Ahmad--Pasiflin, by Flintham) currently resides at Jose De Camargo's Santa Escolastica near Versailles, Ky. Following her stay there, she will be sent to trainer Ron McAnally's barn at Hollywood Park before heading to Argentina. McAnally trained the millionaire mare when she raced in North America.
Paseana, who was retired from racing in 1995 with a pair of Eclipse Awards, was bred several times in North America without success. The Craigs sent her to Argentina in an attempt to get her in foal and hit paydirt when she produced her Lode filly. Paseana was returned to North America this year in hopes of breeding her on South American time. Boarded at William S. Farish's Lane's End Farm near Versailles, Ky., she failed to get in heat and was never bred.
