The grade I $250,000 Gazelle to be contested Saturday at 1 1/8 miles over the main track at Belmont Park marks the return of multiple grade I winner Fleet Renee. The daughter of Seattle Slew has not raced since winning Belmont's grade I Mother Goose on June 30 by 5 1/2 lengths.
Fleet Renee, the 122-pound top weight in the Gazelle, drew post six. Regular rider John Velazquez has the mount.
Real Cozzy has faced Fleet Renee three times and each time finished behind the Michael Dickinson-trainee. That could change Saturday when Real Cozzy turns back to both a one-turn race and nine furlongs. She finished fifth in the 10-furlong Alabama (gr. I) after launching a five-wide bid on the far turn. She had previously finished third and second, respectively, in two grade I races this spring, the Acorn and Mother Goose.
The field for the $250,000 Gazelle includes: Indy Pick (Pat Day, 114); Exogenous (Javier Castellano, 118); Caressing (Rene Douglas, 118); Starrer (Chris McCarron, 118); Transcendental (Edgar Prado, 114); Fleet Renee (Velazquez, 122); Two Item Limit (Jorge Chavez, 118); and Real Cozzy (Larry Melancon, 118).
