The first three to finishers in last year's $200,000 Carl G. Rose Classic, led by veteran handicap star Best of the Rest, will clash again in the climax event on the card. Another highlight will be the first meeting of undefeated 2-year-olds Sir Oscar and Wynn Dot Comma in the $150,000 Jack Price Juvenile.

Jerry Bailey rode Bea Oxenberg's roan/gray handicap star Best of the Rest to victory in the Carl Rose Classic at 1 1/8 miles last year, but the 8-year-old Skip Trial horse will have Eibar Coa in the saddle for Saturday's renewal.

Bailey will be atop Sez Who Thoroughbreds' 4-year-old colt The Judge Sez Who, a supplementary entry in the field of just five 3-year-olds and up. The Milt Wolfson-trained homebred by Judge T C will be making his first start since finishing fourth in the Skip Away Handicap (gr. III) at Gulfstream on April 20.

Best of the Rest won the Skip Away and trainer Eddie Plesa, Jr. recently brought him back for his first start since to finish second as the odds-on favorite in the Spend A Buck Handicap (gr. III) at Calder on Oct. 11 with Bailey aboard.

Best of the Rest has posted a record of 30-15-7-2 for earnings of $1,267,796 during a career interrupted for long periods of time by physical problems. He had his biggest payday at Gulfstream in January when he was a game winner of the Sunshine Millions Classic over Booklet.

The Judge Sez Who is facing a difficult assignment off such a layoff, but his trainer points out that he is a one-run closer with a big punch if things fall in place in front of him.

The Judge Sez Who finished second to Best of the Rest in the Carl Rose last year but came back to reverse that result in the Fred W. Hooper Handicap (gr. III) in December. He was a 'road warrior' last summer, winning or placing in 'derbies' in five states.

Completing the field for the Carl Rose are Newcomb Green's Dancing Guy, third in the race last year, Double G Stable's Tour of the Cat, who upset Best of the Rest to capture the Spend A Buck, and Three G Stable's Longford Arms.

Clement Team to Beat in Bonnie Heath Turf Cup
Trainer Christophe Clement saddles a pair of veteran grass stakes performers in the $150,000 Bonnie Heath Turf Cup. Bailey takes the call on Robert Kaufman's Proud Man and Coa is named on JEB Racing's Sir Brian's Sword.

Sir Brian's Sword was beaten a head in the Bonnie Heath last year, but may not be as heavily backed in the field of eight as Proud Man, whose recent form is better. Proud Man, a 5-year-old by Manlove, lost a nose decision last out in the Kelso Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IIT) at Belmont in early October under Bailey.

Raymond Susi's 5-year-old Built Up has been among the leading sprinters in Florida for the past two seasons and will be the one to beat in a wide-open field of eight 3-year-olds and entered for the $150,000 Jack Dudley Sprint at six furlongs.

Trained by Enrique Alonso, the Homebuilder gelding finished third in this race last year and has piled up earnings of more than $500,000. Coa has the mount as Bailey takes the ride on Double S Stable and Ed Wachtel's Sing Me Back Home for trainer Allen Iwinski.

Sir Oscar is a colt by Halo's Image trained by veteran horseman Manny Azpurua and is five-for-five after capturing the $400,000 In Reality Division of the Florida Stallion Stakes to complete a series sweep. Regular rider Julio Garcia gets the return call.

Developing with less attention over the summer was Wynn Dot Comma, undefeated in four starts, including the six-furlong Birdonthewire Stakes the same afternoon (Oct. 11) Sir Oscar won the In Reality.
