Trainer Paddy Gallagher is hopeful that Al Desima can turn the tables on probable favorite Tranquility Lake in Saturday's $500,000 Yellow Ribbon Stakes (gr. IT) at Santa Anita.
Al Desima ran third behind Tranquility Lake and La Ronge in the grade II Palomar Handicap in her last start Sept. 1, beaten only 1 1/2 lengths by the winner.
Al Desima carried 113 pounds to Tranquility Lake's 123 in the Palomar but won't have that advantage this time around as the Yellow Ribbon is a weight for age event with all older fillies or mares carrying 123 pounds.
Trained by Julio Canani, Tranquility Lake is attempting to become the first back-to-back winner of Oak Tree's signature race in the 25-year-history of the event.
The field for the Yellow Ribbon includes: Minor Details (Victor Espinoza); Al Desima (Kent Desormeaux); Tranquility Lake (Eddie Delahoussaye); The Seven Seas (Alex Solis); Bucarest (Laffit Pincay Jr); Nepenthe (Tyler Baze); Janet (David Flores); and Kalatiara (Chris McCarron).
