Jockey Julio Pezua was given a seven-day suspension Saturday for what stewards said was careless riding Sept. 23. Pezua was aboard West Coast Girl in the second race at Belmont Park. The suspension, which will end Oct. 6, was reduced from 10 days when Pezua waived his right to appeal...The Thoroughbred Corp. said Friday it will donate 10 percent of purse money earned on Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships Day Oct. 27 to the NTRA Charities-New York Heroes Fund. In addition, Prince Ahmed bin Salman, whose colors are carried by runners from The Thoroughbred Corp., has donated to the fund a 2002 season to his dual Classic-winner Point Given, which will be among items auctioned in New York City at the Breeders' Cup Gala Oct. 26...Turfway Park will participate in Boone County's efforts Saturday to raise money for the Boone County 911 Relief Fund. Representatives of Northern Kentucky cities, counties, law enforcement and fire departments will have booths set up on Turfway Park's front apron and there will collection jars for donations along the mutuel lines in the first floor racebook as well as at the concession stands. Saturday also will be Child Safety Day for children from three to 14 and their parents. Activities for the kids include puppet shows, fire trucks on display, and free bike helmets to the first 500 children. For parents, law enforcement officers will be doing fingerprinting and making photo IDs of their children. Turfway Park's gates will open at 11:15 a.m. and the activities will continue until 4 p.m.
