Chief Seattle Works Toward Dwyer Start

Godolphin's Chief Seattle continued preparation for the $150,000 Dwyer Stakes (gr. II, July 9, Belmont Park), breezing five furlongs at Belmont Saturday morning. Chief Seattle completed the drill in 1:02 3/5 over a fast track.

"He went easy," said assistant trainer Eric Coatrieux. "In hindsight, it's probably best that he didn't run in the Belmont. But he's trained super here, and he looks great."

The son of Seattle Slew has yet to start in an official race since finishing second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile while trained by John Kimmel. Likely to face Chief Seattle in the 1 1/16-mile Dwyer are Preakness (gr. I) winner Red Bullet and Kentucky Derby (gr. I) fourth-place finisher More Than Ready.

"The Dwyer is going to be a tough race but this horse proved last fall that he belonged with the best," said Coatrieux.
