The National Weather Service is calling for partly cloudy skies and a high of 53 degrees Saturday in Elmont, N.Y., site of the 18th Breeders' Cup at Belmont Park.
High temperatures in the 70s are forceast for Wednesday and Thursday, with a chance of scattered thunderstorms on Thursday. Fridays' high is expected to be 62.
The Breeders' Cup has previously been run three times in New York. On Nov. 2, 1985 at Aqueduct, it was cloudy and 54; at Belmont on Oct. 27, 1990, it was sunny and 43; and at Belmont on Oct. 28, 1995, it was cloudy and 66.
The 1990 running was the co-coldest Breeders' Cup Day. The same temperature was registered Nov. 2, 1991 at Churchill Downs. The warmest Breeders' Cup Day was Oct. 31, 1992, when it was a sunny 77 degrees in South Florida when the races were run at Gulfstream Park.
The last time the races were run in New York the event registered its lowest attendance figure ever, 37,246.
