Widady, in Foal to Officer, Sells for $340,000

A young mare in foal to the freshman stallion Officer brought a top price of $340,000 Saturday as Keeneland's November Breeding Stock Sale passed the halfway point.

Hopewell Investments, LLC bought Widady, a 6-year-old broodmare by Gone West out of stakes-placed My Song for You by Seattle Song. Mill Ridge Sales, as agent, sold the half-sister to graded stakes winner Minister's Melody.

Officer is a grade I stakes winner of $804,090. His first foals will arrive in 2004.

Keeneland sold 268 horses Saturday for $12,149,000, an average of $45,332 and a median of $35,000. During the comparative session last year, 262 horses brought $8,312,900, an average of $31,729 and a median of $25,000.

With slightly more than half of the sale completed, 1,391 horses have been sold for $213,939,500, an average of $153,803 and a median of $70,000. After six sessions last year, 1,398 horses had been sold for $171,247,100. The average was $122,494 and the median was $50,000.

The sale continues through Nov. 13.
