With 6 Days Left, Keeneland Sale Tops 2002 Total
Gross sales already have eclipsed the totals for last year's entire Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale with six days remaining in the 11-day auction.At the conclusion of Friday's session, sales totaled $201,790,500 for 1,123 horses. This topped the $187,230,000 paid for 2,377 horses during the entire 10-day sale last year. The average is $179,689 and the median is $80,000 through Friday.Copperhead Stable paid a top price of $400,000 for a broodmare in foal to Maria's Mon during Friday's session. Robert E. Courtney's Crestfield Farm, LLC sold West is West, a 5-year-old by Gone West out of grade 1 stakes winner Missed the Storm, by Storm Cat. West is West earned $70,985 during her racing career. Maria's Mon is the sire of 2001 Kentucky Derby winner Monarchos. Trusty Lady, 5-year-old mare who is pregnant to Kentucky Derby winner Silver Charm, brought $270,000, second high price of the session. Gaines-Gentry Thoroughbreds bought the daughter of Deputy Minister and stakes winner Klassy Kim.Taylor Made Sales Agency, as agent, sold Trusty Lady.Keeneland sold 269 horses on Friday for $15,386,500, an average of $57,199 and a median of $40,000. During the corresponding session a year ago, 270 horses brought $11,997,500, an average of $44,435 and a median of $32,000.At this point in the sale last year, 1,136 horses had been sold for $162,934,200, an average of $143,428 and a median of $61,000.The sale continues through Nov. 13.
