Grade II winner Smooth Jazz, a 4-year-old son of Storm Boot, will begin his stud career at Cloverleaf Farms, II near Reddick, Fla. starting with the 2004 breeding season. His fee will be $2,500 live foal.

Owned by Michael Tabor and trained by Todd Pletcher, Smooth Jazz went out a winner, posting a three-length score in the Commonwealth Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. II) at Keeneland on April 13. He posted a 117 Beyer Speed Figure that afternoon, getting the seven furlongs in 1:21.73. To date, that is the co-sixth highest Beyer figure of 2003 of races up to a mile.

In all, Smooth Jazz had a 5-0-1 slate from 11 starts and earned $321,105. He also won the six-furlong Best Turn Stakes at Aqueduct as a 3-year-old in just his second career start.

A maiden winner first time out, on Jan. 11, 2002, Smooth Jazz was purchased by Tabor for $950,000 after his Best Turn victory.

Smooth Jazz is the first foal out of Blushing Issue, a daughter of champion older horse Blushing John. Blushing Issue is a half-sister to Hollywood Turf Cup (gr. IT) winner Royal Chariot.
