Canadian trainer Joe Attard died Nov. 20 at a Toronto hospital from cancer. He was 68.
Attard was the eldest of four brothers who made their mark on the Ontario racing circuit. Brothers Tino, Sid, and Larry took a turn as trainers, and Joe Attard's son, Steve, also is a conditioner. Joe Attard trained eight stakes winners. One of his runners, Wayover, missed winning the 1981 Queen's Plate Stakes by a nose. Wayover was ridden by Larry Attard, who started training last year.
