Country music superstar Toby Keith's undefeated homebred Cactus Ridge will enter stud in 2004 at John T.L. Jones' Walmac International. The son of Hennessy will stand for $6,500.
Cactus Ridge won his first start in June at Arlington Park in a maiden special weight at 4 1/2 furlongs. He then stepped up to stakes competition to win the Canterbury Juvenile by 15 lengths. He next moved to Ellis Park where he registered a 6 1/2-length victory in the James C. Ellis Juvenile.
Cactus Ridge then returned to his home base of Arlington Park for the grade III Arlington-Washington Futurity where after bobbling at the start he drew off to set a new stakes record of 1:35.44 for the one-mile event.
Trained by Brett Calhoun, Cactus Ridge retires undefeated with a combined winning margin of 26 1/4 lengths and $187,850 in earnings.
Bred in Kentucky by Keith's Dream Walkin' Farms, Cactus Ridge is out of the grade I-placed Double Park who has a weanling colt by Giant's Causeway.
