Mummify, Mamool Drawn Well for Melbourne Cup

Three-time Australian group I winner Mummify and Godolphin Racing's star Mamool head a field of 24 entered in Tuesday's $2.83 million Melbourne Cup (Aus-I) over two miles at Flemington racecourse.

The Lee Freedman-trained Mummify won the Caulfield Cup (Aus-I) on Oct. 18. However, Mummify was eighth in the L.S. Mackinnon Stakes (Aus-I) on Saturday at Flemington. The son of Jeune drew the number 10 post, one slot inside of Mamool, and will be ridden by Danny Nikolic.

Freedman has won the Melbourne Cup three times previously.

Mamool, to be ridden by Frankie Dettori, posted a pair of group I wins in Germany in his most recent efforts, the last coming Sept. 28 in the Preis von Europa at Cologne. Godolphin also entered Millstreet, a stakes winner in Ireland who finished a close third in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (Fr-I) on June 29, but was disqualified and placed sixth.
