Keeneland expects to catalogue about 50 more horses this year for its April auction of 2-year-olds in training. The sale is scheduled for Tuesday, April 16, a dark day during the Keeneland spring race meet.
The catalogue will contain approximately 250 horses. Last year, Keeneland catalogued 199.
"There really are two reasons for the increase," Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland's director of sales, said. "We have about 14 or 15 new consignors, and those that have sold with us in the past have brought more horses to us this year."
At the 2001 sale, 146 went through the ring and 91 sold for $14,898,000. The average was $163,714 and the median $125,000. That was an increase in the average of 8.8% and a jump in the median of $19%.
