Bobby Frankel, posted a new season earnings mark.
The scariest thing about trainer Bobby Frankel setting a North American single-season earnings record on Halloween is that there are still two months left in 2003.
Friday, the Hall of Fame conditioner broke the D. Wayne Lukas' record when Golden Rahy rallied to win the $48,000 allowance feature on the turf at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.
The triumph by Golden Rahy was worth $28,800 and pushed Frankel's 2003 purse total to $17,854,877. Lukas set the old mark of $17,842,358 in 1988.
Frankel, 62, has won a record 23 Grade I stakes events in 2003 and is a favorite to win a fourth consecutive Eclipse Award as the nation's leading trainer. He is Oak Tree's all-time leading trainer with 240 wins.
A 4-year-old Kentucky-bred by Rahy, Golden Rahy was ridden by Corey Nakatani and paid $13.20 after running 1 1/4 miles in 2:00.68.
